The company that paid for the most expensive internet domain name in the world is turning the website into the “adult-oriented alternative to Pinterest”.
Sex.com will allow users to “pin” erotic or pornographic images to virtual message boards in an effort to appeal to men who avoid Pinterest.
Pinterest is one of the biggest and fastest growing social networks online, but 97 percent of its users are women, a press release from Sex.com said.
“Pinterest doesn’t allow adult photos, so we felt there was an opportunity in the marketplace for such a service, and with the large amount of adult-oriented traffic, we expect to compete with sites like Tumblr and Pinterest over the next 12 months,” the release read.
“Women are pinning bras, men are pinning boobs.”
Since Sex.com’s beta launch on May 1, a new user account has been created every minute.
Sex.com became the world’s most expensive domain name in 2010 when it was sold for $13 million.
